Marilyn Beyond the Speed of Thought

What unfolds when the grandeur of myth collides with the whimsy of slapstick, and Hollywood’s most radiant blonde not only transcends her own legend but also the very principles of cartoons? The portrayal of Marilyn Beyond the Speed of Thought is more than a whimsical pop surrealism — it's a contemplation on speed, stardom, and the peculiar ways culture clings to its idols. In a single frame, Marilyn Monroe steps out of the pages of history and into an eternal pursuit, not by the paparazzi but by the timeless jesters of the desert: Roadrunner, Wile E. Coyote, Taz, and Bugs Bunny.

It's a paradox of the absurd and the profound. The desert stage, the crimson stride, the whirl of animation around her: all of it raises Marilyn from a mere starlet to an archetype. She becomes not just a symbol of beauty or a mere celebrity, but a force of movement, wit, and transcendence. Observing her here offers a glimpse of how pop culture and mythology entwine, crafting a vision that is simultaneously humorous, divine, and indelible.

Embark with me on a journey to uncover the enthralling world of super speed. This essay is designed to both entertain and enlighten you about the intricate process of running at high speeds. Prepare to be informed, inspired, and entertained.

“Marilyn Beyond the Speed of Thought
Marilyn in the Desert Sprint

Through desert heat, beneath the sun,
Marilyn runs — and all must run.
Her crimson stride, a comet’s flame,
No chase on earth can match her name.

Roadrunner blinks, Wile E. trips,
Taz spins out with furious lips.
Bugs grins, adjusts his stance —
But she has left them in a trance.

Philosophers, poets, saints and kings,
All fall behind on broken wings.
Athletes pant, and heroes fade,
Her shadow leaves them all betrayed.

Past prophets, tricksters, beasts of lore,
She kicks up dust — they see no more.
A goddess racing, swift, supreme,
Beyond the gag, beyond the dream.

And in her trail, a golden haze,
A myth reborn in scarlet blaze.
For none can match her lightning tread —
They’re lost in dust, where Marilyn sped.”

Marilyn Beyond the Speed of Thought

Some images halt us in our tracks. Others make us rush to catch up. And then there are those rare, surreal visions where the worlds of glamour, comedy, and myth collide — and we find ourselves laughing, marvelling, and thinking all at once. Imagine the desert, a symbol of vastness and freedom, stretching beneath a blazing sky, a woman in red cutting through the horizon like a flame. Her hair streams behind her, her stride is perfect, her speed incredible. It is Marilyn Monroe — not captured in candlelit close-ups or whispered legends — but racing like the goddess of velocity herself, a sight that leaves us in awe of her speed and grace.

And she is not alone. Out of the dust storm, a familiar commotion ensues: Wile E. Coyote, a symbol of relentless pursuit, lunging in doomed persistence; Roadrunner, a symbol of speed and agility, darting with his eternal “meep-meep”; Taz, a symbol of chaos and unpredictability, spinning himself into incoherence; and Bugs Bunny, always the bemused observer and a symbol of wit and cunning, trots along as if this were just another gag reel. These characters, each representing a different aspect of the human condition, are in a perpetual chase. It’s Looney Tunes mayhem at its finest — but this time, the joke is on them. They chase, they scramble, they fail. Because the blonde in red is not only faster than them — she’s more rapid than the gag, quicker than the chase itself.

From Celebrity to Archetype

Marilyn Monroe has always been an icon, but icons can become clichés. Here, she breaks free from her mythology and finds freedom through movement. She is no longer the delicate ingénue of Hollywood’s golden age, nor the tragic star defined by her endings. Instead, she embodies energy itself, a figure who belongs as much to legend as to cinema. Like Hermes with winged sandals or Atalanta outrunning her suitors, she becomes a modern archetype: a goddess of speed. The desert isn’t just a backdrop — it’s Olympus reimagined, with Warner Bros. characters as satyrs and tricksters chasing a divinity they can never catch.

Myth Meets Saturday Morning

And what a stage it is. Looney Tunes has always revolved around absurd pursuits: the never-ending chase, the impossible escape, the pratfall that makes us laugh even as we see it coming. By placing Marilyn at the centre of this comic universe, the image does something clever — it elevates her while also playfully mocking the very idea of chasing an icon. Roadrunner is meant to be the epitome of speed. Yet even he is left behind, not by dynamite or ACME gadgets, but by an icon whose velocity resides in her cultural permanence. The gag turns into myth, the myth into comedy, and through the collision, something new appears: Marilyn as a force that surpasses the limits of both reel and real, continuously shaping and influencing popular culture.

The Humour and the Halo

It is amusing, of course — that’s the genius of it. There’s a wink here, a playful reminder not to take either the cartoons or Marilyn too seriously. And yet, humour and reverence exist side by side. Her stride is athletic perfection, her poise serene, her expression utterly in control. The cartoons flap, spin, and crash around her, while she moves forward without hesitation. That duality — the goddess who also shares the joke — is what makes the image sing. It enhances the contrast: the boisterous cartoon world only heightens her elegance, underscoring the power of her presence. She is in on the humour, but she also rises above it.

Captions for an Eternal Chase

One could hang a dozen captions on the scene, each turning the prism in a new way:

Marilyn Monroe, faster than the gag, quicker than the chase — an icon outpacing thought itself.

Not just a star but a streak of myth and speed, Marilyn surpasses even the cartoon laws of time.

Beyond film, beyond flesh, beyond thought — Marilyn Monroe, a force even Roadrunner cannot match.

Each variation captures her differently — as playful, as mythic, as eternal. But together, they reveal the point: Marilyn’s magic is not only that she was a star, but that she continues to move faster than our definitions. Even in parody, even in pop art remix, she remains just out of reach, reminding us of her enduring influence and cultural impact.

In the end, what lingers is the laughter and the wonder. The desert chase is pure cartoon chaos, but it captures a truth that can’t be animated away: Marilyn Monroe was, and is, more than a woman on a screen. She is velocity. She is an archetype. She is the punchline and the divine. And in this surreal sprint across myth and desert dust, she proves once again that no one — not even Roadrunner — can keep up.

Lite om bilder och mig. Translation in English at the end.

A bit about pictures and me.

I'm a curious person who sees everything in pictures, even what I express in words, often combining them, for behind all my pictures lies a story. These narratives, some as short as a single image and others as long as a novel, are the heart and soul of my work.

Pictures tell stories. Wherever I go, I'm surrounded by natural beauty, exciting people, and history. I use my camera to document the world and blend what I see with what I feel to capture the hidden magic.
My images tell my stories. Through my pictures, prints, and narratives, I invite you to partake in these stories in your life and home and share my deeply personal perspective of our world. More than meets the eye. I think in pictures, dream, write, and talk about them; consequently, I must create images too. They become what I see, not necessarily confined to reality. There's a picture around every corner. I hope you'll see what I saw and enjoy it.

I'm also a writer, and many images come with a shorter or longer essay. It accompanies the painting, printed on fine paper with my personal greeting.

Many pictures start their journey on my camera. Simply put, I describe the image I see in my mind, experienced or imagined. The image arises within me even before I bring the eyepiece to my eye. In a fraction of a moment, I see what I want and what can be done with the picture. Here, I'll insert a giraffe, Superman, the Titanic, or whatever my imagination conjures up. Even stranger is that I remember the mental image long after it's time to create the work. Whether I succeed is up to the observer, often imbued with a streak of black humour – the aim is to entertain. My pictures usually become a talking point wherever they hang.

I prefer pictures that convey a message in multiple layers. At first glance, they're filled with feel-good vibes, a beautiful view, lovely weather, the sun shining, flowers in the meadow, or the water lying deceptively calm. But beneath this surface beauty, I often conceal a deeper story, a narrative that challenges societal norms or explores the human condition. I invite you to delve into these hidden narratives and discover the layers of meaning within my work.

Picture and design have been a thread running through my life. Photographic art feels like a fitting finale, and I'm happy to share it.
My genre is varied, as seen in my pictures; the theme is a blend of pop and street art in collages that can consist of hundreds of layers. Some images can take weeks, others just a day before it's time to hand over the result to the print workshop. Fine Art Prints are digital photo collages. In these collages, tearing, cutting, puzzling, painting, drawing, and spraying happen digitally. What I insert can be images hundreds of years old that I carefully extract so they appear to be part of the painting, but also images created by myself, now also generated from my imagination. Next, visit the print studio and, for certain images, number a limited edition (usually 7 copies) and sign them by hand. Some images may be available in other formats. Just ask which ones. If you like an image that's 70x100 but doesn't have space on the wall, you might be able to get it in 50x70 cm instead. The question is open.

The Giclée method, or Fine Art Print as it's also called, is the modern way of producing graphic art. This method ensures the highest quality and longevity of the artwork, using a high-quality large-format printer with archival pigment inks and artist paper or, in some cases, canvas. The paper used meets the longevity requirements set by museums and galleries. I sell my pictures unframed, allowing the new owner to personalise their artwork, confident in the lasting value and quality of the piece.

For many years, I only exhibited online, in selected groups, and on my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/jorgen.thornberg.9. I also have my website, which unfortunately is not constantly updated - https://www.jth.life/. You can also read some of the stories accompanying the pictures there.
