A large-scale mixed-media still life exploring exaggerated proportions, simplified forms and the relationship between colour, shape and material.
Familiar objects — fruit, a vessel, fragments of pattern — are enlarged, flattened and distorted until they move somewhere between representation and abstraction. Rather than describing the objects realistically, colour and proportion are allowed to follow their own logic.
The composition is physically constructed from hand-cut pieces of cardboard, gessoed, layered, glued and pinned onto canvas. Working with collage at this scale allows the forms to be moved, overlapped and altered almost like physical objects before becoming fixed within the composition. Visible seams, edges, pins and the texture of the cardboard remain deliberately present as part of the work.
Technique: Mixed media — gessoed cardboard on canvas, acrylic, oil paint, oil sticks, watercolour wax crayons and oil pastels

Ive never been particularly interested in defining my work through one style or visual language. I tend to follow intuition, colour, movement and whatever happens between memory, material and the thing Im trying to make.
I work across painting, collage and mixed media, using oils, oil sticks, pastels, cardboard and whatever else the work seems to need. Im drawn to cutting things apart, layering them, rebuilding them and leaving some of that construction visible.
My work often begins with something ordinary a flower, a vase, a bowl of fruit, a landscape and becomes something slightly less certain along the way. Shapes get simplified, proportions shift, colours stop behaving realistically and lines dont necessarily go where they should.
Im less interested in perfection than in what happens when I allow a work to stay a little raw, playful and unresolved.
For me, making art is a way of finding something I couldnt have planned in advance.
