Målningen bär på två röster från konstnärens farmor, Fulceda Yevenes Tangol.
Under de snöade bergskedjorna kan man ana delar av Chiles nationalsång skrivna i farmoderns handstil – himmel, berg och hav.

Längre ner, en bit av ett brev där hon uttrycker tacksamhet till landet som tog emot henne på flykt och där hennes barnbarn föddes.

Havet breder ut sig som en länk som blandar två hemländer.
Solen som delar duken i korsande strålar, kan vara en antydan till svenska flaggan men också till de fyra väderstrecken.

I horisonten vakar ”guñelve” – Mapuche-stjärnan, Polstjärnan, Lucero som också är konstnärens efternamn.
Och i förgrunden ett anatomiskt hjärta genomborrat av ljuset, väderstrecken.

Ådrorna nedåt blöder som rötter ryckta ur jorden.
Ordet SUR – söder, ursprung, men också smak av sorg.
Ådrorna uppåt förgrenar sig i blommor, som livets envisa fortsättning.

Verket är en meditation över ”desarraigo” – rotlöshet – och en tolkning av Makizas sångtext: “Somos hijos de la Rosa de los vientos.”

The painting carries two voices from the artist’s grandmother, Fulceda Yevenes Tangol.
Beneath the snow-covered mountains, fragments of Chile’s national anthem can be glimpsed in her handwriting – sky, mountains, and sea.

Further down, a piece of a letter where she expresses her gratitude to the country that received her in exile, and where her grandchildren were born.

The sea stretches out as a link that blends two homelands.
The sun divides the canvas with crossing rays, evoking both the Swedish flag and the four cardinal directions.

On the horizon watches the guñelve – the Mapuche star, the North Star, Lucero – which is also the artist’s surname.
And in the foreground, an anatomical heart pierced by light, by the directions.

The veins below bleed into roots torn from the earth. At their base stands the word SUR – south, origin, but also a taste of sorrow.
The veins above branch into flowers, the stubborn continuation of life.

The work is a meditation on desarraigo – rootlessness – and a visual interpretation of Makiza’s lyrics:
“Somos hijos de la Rosa de los vientos.”
