The Jack Russell Paradox in Dalarna
Some dogs nap.
Some dogs fetch.
And then there are the dogs who see life as a quest, who regard every open door, every rolling wave, every rustling bush as an invitation. This is the Jack Russell terrier, a breed that embodies the spirit of adventure.
The Jack Russell terrier, a small, spring-loaded bundle of muscle and mischief, is a constant whirlwind of energy. With its distinctive white and brown coat, always in motion, always alert, and convinced that the world is far too fascinating to sit still.
If Wonder Woman needed a dog — not a mascot, not a pet, but a partner in the chaos of adventure – there could only be one choice.
”Jack Russell
He’s small as a loaf, yet fierce as the sky,
a blur on four paws as the world rushes by.
With eyes full of spark and a tail that won’t quit,
he lives every moment with unbroken wit.
He barks at the waves and he chases the breeze,
he’ll herd all your socks and bring giants to their knees.
No mountain too high and no puddle too deep,
he runs through your heart when you’re trying to sleep.
A hero in fur, a storm in disguise,
with courage that glows in those firework eyes.
For love wears no crown, it comes bounding instead —
a Jack Russell, the king of your heart and your bed.”

How a 7-Kilo Dog Runs Dalarna and the World
Wonder Woman did what many others do in summer—she headed for Dalarna. She discovered Fryksås, an old mountain pasture settlement known for its unique atmosphere and stunning views over Lake Orsa. It is an ideal destination for both short visits and longer stays, with cottages available for rent all year round. Fryksås, with its serene surroundings, offers activities such as hiking, cycling, and fishing, and is close to attractions like the Zorn Museum in Mora and the Dalhalla open-air arena in Rättvik.
A ‘fäbod’, also known as a ‘fäbodvall’ or ‘säter’, is a place where livestock were traditionally grazed during the summer, often on higher ground—cooler and with fewer mosquitoes. Fryksås is a well-preserved example, featuring several cottages and other buildings such as cowsheds and cookhouses. It forms part of a living fäbod culture that is a unique and integral part of Sweden’s cultural heritage. Here, “Kryddan”—Wonder Woman’s peppery little dog—could hunt to her heart’s content, for what Dalarna critter would care about a comic-book character? The only ones who took note of the feisty Jack Russell boy were the watchful wolves, and wherever Kryddan roamed, there was a guaranteed wolf-free zone. Some of them fled down to Skåne, so spooked they were. That’s why the pair were welcomed even more warmly than by the feminists who admired Wonder Woman’s liberated and independent spirit.
There are dogs, and then there are Jack Russells. The difference? A Labrador will bring you your slippers. A Golden Retriever will comfort you when you cry. A Jack Russell will drag your sofa across the room because he’s decided it blocks his “adventure path.”
There are sidekicks, and then there’s the sidekick – the one dog that could ever keep pace with Wonder Woman.
Not a demigod in disguise, nor a winged stallion from Themyscira, but a Jack Russell terrier: fearless, tireless, and so brimming with joy that even Olympus would find it hard to contain. As Diana strides across the sand with a suitcase in one hand and a beach ball in the other, the little dog is right there, mid-leap, ears flying like battle flags, ready for every adventure, every sudden turn, every impossible quest. Because if anyone can match Wonder Woman’s boundless energy, it’s a Jack Russell who has already conquered the world in his mind.
Jack Russells were bred to hunt foxes, a trait that is deeply ingrained in their DNA. This says everything you need to know: they believe everything in the world is a fox. The vacuum cleaner? A fox. Your left shoe? Probably a fox. The UPS man? No, definitely a Jack Russell with a fox in mind. And don't be surprised if you find your Jack Russell trying to 'hunt' the squirrels in your backyard or 'rescue' you from the mailman.
They’re about the size of a loaf of bread, standing at around 10-12 inches tall and weighing between 14-18 pounds – yet they carry themselves as if they could take down a dragon before breakfast. And perhaps they could. Legend claims a Jack Russell can send an entire herd of elephants running with nothing more than a bark and a disapproving stare. Scientists have yet to confirm this, but no one dares to test it.
A Jack Russell terrier does not simply enter a room; he charges into it. He isn’t bothered about whether you have time for him – he is the time. He’s the alarm clock, the to-do list, the gym session, and the entertainment all in one. If you think you’re adopting a dog, you’re mistaken. You’re adopting a tiny dictator in a fur coat.
And yet… they’re utterly irresistible. Because while they’re dismantling your shoes, your garden, your sanity, they’re also incredibly loyal. A Jack Russell doesn’t do half-measures. He loves you like he hunts foxes: fully, endlessly, without pause. They will follow you around the house, sit on your lap, and shower you with kisses, showing their love in their own unique, sometimes chaotic, way. Their loyalty is a constant reminder of the love they have for you.
Other dogs nap. The Jack Russell only naps when unconscious. Other dogs wag their tails. The Jack Russell wags his whole body – a white and brown metronome of chaos and joy. His boundless pleasure is infectious, lifting our spirits and bringing a smile to our faces.
He is fearless, tireless, endlessly curious, and confident that the world is one great game. His game. His daring nature is a source of inspiration, reminding us to approach life with courage and curiosity.
And in the end, that’s why we forgive him for the chewed wires, the muddy pawprints, and the hole he dug through the garden fence, because his boundless joy and unwavering love make it impossible not to.
Because the Jack Russell terrier reminds us of something we've forgotten: that life is meant to be lived at full speed, that no challenge is too great if faced with joy, and that even the smallest creature can possess the mightiest spirit.
And if anyone doubts that a Jack Russell is the ultimate Wonder Woman companion, Tara is always there to prove it. Tara wasn’t the kind of dog who settled for garden fences or lazy afternoons. She preferred looking at the horizon. She travelled the world with her humans, Rosemary and Robert Forrester, a tiny stowaway with the spirit of a pirate.
Once, somewhere in the bustling Malacca Straits, Tara went overboard. For any other dog, that might have been the end of the story. But Tara wasn’t “any other dog.” She paddled, barked at the shipping lanes, and was scooped up by a local fisherman who probably thought Poseidon himself had sent him a gift.
Four days later – after newspaper appeals and probably a few sleepless nights – Tara was back with her family, shaking salt water out of her ears as if nothing had happened.
And that was only one chapter. Tara enjoyed dolphin watching (perhaps giving them orders), caught a 40-centimetre shark to show she could, and engaged in diplomatic relations – sometimes tense – with monkeys and cats around the world. She even had a 'standoff' with a particularly feisty cat in Paris, which she won with her characteristic Jack Russell charm and determination.
Because that’s what a Jack Russell does: they don’t just live life. They chase it, bite it, shake it, and then wag their tail as if to say, “What’s next?”

Lite om bilder och mig. Translation in English at the end.

A bit about pictures and me.
I'm a curious person who sees everything in pictures, even what I express in words, often combining them, for behind all my pictures lies a story. These narratives, some as short as a single image and others as long as a novel, are the heart and soul of my work.
Pictures tell stories. Wherever I go, I'm surrounded by natural beauty, exciting people, and history. I use my camera to document the world and blend what I see with what I feel to capture the hidden magic.
My images tell my stories. Through my pictures, prints, and narratives, I invite you to partake in these stories in your life and home and share my deeply personal perspective of our world. More than meets the eye. I think in pictures, dream, write, and talk about them; consequently, I must create images too. They become what I see, not necessarily confined to reality. There's a picture around every corner. I hope you'll see what I saw and enjoy it.
I'm also a writer, and many images come with a shorter or longer essay. It accompanies the painting, printed on fine paper with my personal greeting.
Many pictures start their journey on my camera. Simply put, I describe the image I see in my mind, experienced or imagined. The image arises within me even before I bring the eyepiece to my eye. In a fraction of a moment, I see what I want and what can be done with the picture. Here, I'll insert a giraffe, Superman, the Titanic, or whatever my imagination conjures up. Even stranger is that I remember the mental image long after it's time to create the work. Whether I succeed is up to the observer, often imbued with a streak of black humour – the aim is to entertain. My pictures usually become a talking point wherever they hang.
I prefer pictures that convey a message in multiple layers. At first glance, they're filled with feel-good vibes, a beautiful view, lovely weather, the sun shining, flowers in the meadow, or the water lying deceptively calm. But beneath this surface beauty, I often conceal a deeper story, a narrative that challenges societal norms or explores the human condition. I invite you to delve into these hidden narratives and discover the layers of meaning within my work.
Picture and design have been a thread running through my life. Photographic art feels like a fitting finale, and I'm happy to share it.
My genre is varied, as seen in my pictures; the theme is a blend of pop and street art in collages that can consist of hundreds of layers. Some images can take weeks, others just a day before it's time to hand over the result to the print workshop. Fine Art Prints are digital photo collages. In these collages, tearing, cutting, puzzling, painting, drawing, and spraying happen digitally. What I insert can be images hundreds of years old that I carefully extract so they appear to be part of the painting, but also images created by myself, now also generated from my imagination. Next, visit the print studio and, for certain images, number a limited edition (usually 7 copies) and sign them by hand. Some images may be available in other formats. Just ask which ones. If you like an image that's 70x100 but doesn't have space on the wall, you might be able to get it in 50x70 cm instead. The question is open.
The Giclée method, or Fine Art Print as it's also called, is the modern way of producing graphic art. This method ensures the highest quality and longevity of the artwork, using a high-quality large-format printer with archival pigment inks and artist paper or, in some cases, canvas. The paper used meets the longevity requirements set by museums and galleries. I sell my pictures unframed, allowing the new owner to personalise their artwork, confident in the lasting value and quality of the piece.
For many years, I only exhibited online, in selected groups, and on my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/jorgen.thornberg.9. I also have my website, which unfortunately is not constantly updated - https://www.jth.life/. You can also read some of the stories accompanying the pictures there.
