A figure curls in fetal position, its body marked by many eyes. Two storks hover nearby, timeless symbols of birth and transformation, guiding this new life from the depths of the celestial unknown.
“Birth of Consciousness” is rendered in vibrant acrylics and detailed with acrylic pen on paper. In this work, I weave together both biological and mystical symbols of birth with the curled human form, the watchful storks, and the many eyes opening to awareness.
Who says birth happens only when you leave the womb? Conscious birth can arrive at any moment - through the quiet rebuilding of the self, the shedding of old skins, and the rebirth carried by every experience.

Malavika Venugopal (Vika Venu) creates paintings that emerge from a place where the boundaries of reality softly dissolve. Her surreal, intuitive works are imbued with personal and cultural motifs, drawing deeply on the wealth of childhood stories and myths that shaped her imagination. For Malavika (Vika), the act of painting is an act of storytelling—a way to weave together the notes of old songs, fragments of legends, and the motifs of magic that linger in memory.
Each canvas becomes a portal, a space where the impossible feels effortlessly natural. The stories of her heritage infuse her compositions, threading themes of wonder, transformation, and spiritual resonance throughout.
