The Tale of Ellie, the Sea Princess
At the break of dawn, when the sun's golden rays caressed the peaks of the sapphire waves, a girl named Ellie emerged. Her lineage, deeply entwined with the ancient Greek myths, was as tumultuous and rich as the surrounding seas. In her era, she was known as Helle, a name that resonated with the world of gods, mortals, and the often blurred line between them.
As she was called by those who knew her well, Ellie was a name that could stand alone or be a shortened form of many names. For her, it symbolised the heritage of her ancestors, the strength and grace of Eleanor, the wisdom of Elizabeth, and the mystical charm of Elvira. But in the annals of mythology, she was Helle, daughter of King Athamas of Boeotia and the cloud nymph Nephele. Her story was one of love, jealousy, peril, and transformation.
Helle was born in the fertile lands of Boeotia. Her birth was celebrated by her mother, Nephele, who wrapped her in a blanket of clouds. She grew up with her brother Phrixus in a kingdom where the skies often mirrored their mother's ethereal beauty. However, their happiness was short-lived. Athamas, swayed by the mortal desires of the world, married Ino, the daughter of Cadmus and Harmonia. Ino was a woman of striking beauty and cunning mind, but her heart was cold as stone towards her stepchildren.
Ino, having given birth to two sons for Athamas, saw Helle and Phrixus as a threat to her own children's future. Her jealousy and animosity grew, leading her to devise a wicked plan to eliminate her stepchildren. She sabotaged the town's crop seeds, ensuring a famine that forced the desperate farmers to seek advice from an oracle. Manipulating the oracle's response through bribery, Ino orchestrated the demand for Phrixus's sacrifice.
On the brink of death, Helle and Phrixus were miraculously saved by a magnificent golden ram, Crius Chrysomallus, a gift from their divine mother, Nephele. With its shimmering fleece, the golden ram carried them away from Boeotia, soaring high above the lands and seas towards the distant realm of Colchis.
The journey was long and arduous. Phrixus held tightly to the golden fleece, his determination and strength unwavering. But Helle, delicate and less resilient, struggled to maintain her grip. Helle's strength gave out near the strait of Sigeium, south of Istanbul. She slipped from the ram's back and fell into the turbulent waters below, a fall that would have marked the end of her mortal life.
The narrow strait where she fell was named the Hellespont, a tribute to the princess who had perished there. Though the waters of the strait are now known as the Dardanelles, the legacy of Helle's name endures in the whispers of the waves.
But this was not the end of Helle's tale. Rescued by Poseidon, the god of the sea, she was elevated to the status of a sea goddess. With Poseidon, she bore two sons, the giants Almops and Paeon, their strength and grandeur a testament to their divine lineage. Helle, now known as Ellie, embraced her new life beneath the waves, a life of eternal beauty and serenity.
She made her home on the enchanting island of Hydra, near Limnioniza on the southeastern side facing the Myrtoan Sea. In a hidden cave north of the sandy beach, Ellie crafted a magnificent underwater abode fit for a goddess of the sea. The entrance, guarded by slippery rocks and a raw facade, concealed a grand residence where the sea's whispers sang her story.
Ellie's tale was one of transformation and resilience. Her spirit, like the waves that caressed the shores of Hydra, was eternal. For those who ventured near Limnioniza, the legend of Ellie, the sea princess, lived on. And in the quiet moments when the sea was still, one could almost hear her laughter, a melody carried by the gentle embrace of the ocean breeze.
Ellie's Underwater Abode and Daily Life
Beneath the shimmering waters of the Myrtoan Sea, nestled in a hidden cave on the southeastern side of Hydra, Ellie, once known as Helle, lives a life of unparalleled luxury and serenity. Her magnificent underwater abode, a hidden sea gem, is concealed behind a raw entrance with slippery rocks, revealing only a hint of the grandeur within. This grand residence, worthy of a sea goddess, is a blend of marine beauty and the opulence of Versailles, a testament to her divine status.
Ellie's dwelling is an ethereal mix of the natural and the regal. The walls are adorned with shimmering pearls and bioluminescent corals, casting a soft, magical glow throughout the space. Elegant seaweed drapes hang like tapestries, and the floors are paved with polished shells and mother-of-pearl mosaics depicting scenes from her storied past. Intricate chandeliers made of glowing jellyfish illuminate the hallways, while the gentle sound of the sea provides a soothing, ever-present background melody.
Her furniture is crafted from the finest materials the ocean has to offer. Chairs and sofas are upholstered in soft, iridescent scales, and her grand dining table is carved from a single piece of ancient driftwood and polished to perfection. The table is always set with exquisite sea-themed china and silverware, ready for the sumptuous feasts she often enjoys.
Ellie's day begins with the gentle touch of the morning tide. As the first rays of sunlight pierce the ocean's surface, they filter down into her cave, casting a serene, golden light. She awakens to the melodic sound of dolphins singing, her loyal servants ready to attend to her needs. They bring her breakfast on a silver tray – fresh fruits of the sea, such as succulent sea grapes and delicate coral berries, accompanied by the finest caviar and a glass of sparkling water from the Fountain of Youth. This peaceful start to her day sets the tone for the tranquillity that envelops her life.
After breakfast, Ellie often takes a leisurely swim around her domain. Her flowing hair streams behind her like a golden halo as she glides through the water, accompanied by her playful dolphin attendants. She explores the vibrant coral gardens, greeting the sea creatures that call her realm home. The octopuses in the kitchen, dressed in elegant black tuxedos, prepare her lunch, deftly using their many arms to spread the finest marine delicacies.
In the afternoon, Ellie sits on a terrace above her grotto, gazing at the endless horizon. The view is breathtaking – the deep blue sea stretching out to meet the sky, the line between them blurred by the distant shimmer. She contemplates the vastness of the Mediterranean, her thoughts wandering to the shores of Africa far to the south. The gentle lapping of the waves against the rocks below lulls her into a peaceful reflection, and she often drifts into a light, dream-filled sleep.
As evening falls, Ellie prepares for a grand feast. Her dining hall, a magnificent chamber with high ceilings and walls adorned with murals of ancient sea gods, is the setting for the evening's festivities. The table is laden with a bounty of marine dishes – delicate salads made from dozens of varieties of seaweed, tangy and refreshing algae soup, and platters of freshly caught fish and shellfish, each dish more exquisite than the last.
Her octopus chefs, with their many arms, serve the dishes precisely and gracefully. They ensure that Ellie's plate is always full, adjusting her cutlery and refilling her glass with the finest wines and sparkling waters. Swordfish, clad in sleek armour, stand as her loyal guards, while the colourful Symphodus tinca fish serve as her ladies-in-waiting, tending to her every need.
The evening's entertainment is a highlight of the feast. The music begins with a chorus of Sirens from the flowery island of Anthemoessa, their voices weaving a spell of enchantment. They are accompanied by a grand orchestra of divine musicians: Apollo with his cithara, Hermes on the lyre, Pan with his syrinx, and Athena playing the aulos. The music swells, filling the chamber with a symphony of sounds, from the deep resonance of the trumpet (salpinx) and horn (keras) to the rhythmic beat of the tambourine (rhoptron) and shallow drum (tympanon). Clappers (krotala) and maracas (phormiskoi) add a playful element, while the xylophone (psithyra) and various harps, including the triangular psalterion, create an ethereal backdrop.
If you listen closely when passing by boat or swimming at the nearby sandy beach, the tones emerge through the murmur of the sea. As the music plays, Ellie is entertained by the court jester, a parrotfish whose antics make her laugh so hard that bubbles rise to the water's surface. The jesters' jokes and tricks are a delightful end to the evening, leaving Ellie and her guests in high spirits.
When the festivities finally close, Ellie retires to her private chambers. The gentle sounds of the sea outside her window lull her to sleep, and she dreams of the adventures awaiting her in the coming days. For Ellie, life in her underwater palace is a perfect blend of tranquillity, beauty, and the endless wonders of the ocean.

Lite om bilder och mig. Translation in English at the end.

A bit about pictures and me.
I'm a curious person who sees everything in pictures, even what I express in words, often combining them, for behind all my pictures lies a story. These narratives, some as short as a single image and others as long as a novel, are the heart and soul of my work.
Pictures tell stories. Wherever I go, I'm surrounded by natural beauty, exciting people, and history. I use my camera to document the world and blend what I see with what I feel to capture the hidden magic.
My images tell my stories. Through my pictures, prints, and narratives, I invite you to partake in these stories in your life and home and share my deeply personal perspective of our world. More than meets the eye. I think in pictures, dream, write, and talk about them; consequently, I must create images too. They become what I see, not necessarily confined to reality. There's a picture around every corner. I hope you'll see what I saw and enjoy it.
I'm also a writer, and many images come with a shorter or longer essay. It accompanies the painting, printed on fine paper with my personal greeting.
Many pictures start their journey on my camera. Simply put, I describe the image I see in my mind, experienced or imagined. The image arises within me even before I bring the eyepiece to my eye. In a fraction of a moment, I see what I want and what can be done with the picture. Here, I'll insert a giraffe, Superman, the Titanic, or whatever my imagination conjures up. Even stranger is that I remember the mental image long after it's time to create the work. Whether I succeed is up to the observer, often imbued with a streak of black humour – the aim is to entertain. My pictures usually become a talking point wherever they hang.
I prefer pictures that convey a message in multiple layers. At first glance, they're filled with feel-good vibes, a beautiful view, lovely weather, the sun shining, flowers in the meadow, or the water lying deceptively calm. But beneath this surface beauty, I often conceal a deeper story, a narrative that challenges societal norms or explores the human condition. I invite you to delve into these hidden narratives and discover the layers of meaning within my work.
Picture and design have been a thread running through my life. Photographic art feels like a fitting finale, and I'm happy to share it.
My genre is varied, as seen in my pictures; the theme is a blend of pop and street art in collages that can consist of hundreds of layers. Some images can take weeks, others just a day before it's time to hand over the result to the print workshop. Fine Art Prints are digital photo collages. In these collages, tearing, cutting, puzzling, painting, drawing, and spraying happen digitally. What I insert can be images hundreds of years old that I carefully extract so they appear to be part of the painting, but also images created by myself, now also generated from my imagination. Next, visit the print studio and, for certain images, number a limited edition (usually 7 copies) and sign them by hand. Some images may be available in other formats. Just ask which ones. If you like an image that's 70x100 but doesn't have space on the wall, you might be able to get it in 50x70 cm instead. The question is open.
The Giclée method, or Fine Art Print as it's also called, is the modern way of producing graphic art. This method ensures the highest quality and longevity of the artwork, using a high-quality large-format printer with archival pigment inks and artist paper or, in some cases, canvas. The paper used meets the longevity requirements set by museums and galleries. I sell my pictures unframed, allowing the new owner to personalise their artwork, confident in the lasting value and quality of the piece.
For many years, I only exhibited online, in selected groups, and on my Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/jorgen.thornberg.9. I also have my website, which unfortunately is not constantly updated - https://www.jth.life/. You can also read some of the stories accompanying the pictures there.
