The Earth element is the one most closely linked with our physical world, and the densest of all the elements. It governs security, loyalty, responsibility, money, and health of physical body. It is the feminine element of the Mother Goddess and stands for stability and growth, It is the foundation on which the other elements move. Earth provides the stable environment from which all Iife (as we know it) springs, lives and thrives. The energy of Earth rules the south, and it’s season is summer. Earths energy is grounding. When we look at our personal connection with the five natural elements, it’s truly incredible to see how we are each so deeply connected to Mother Earth, it is also surprising just how easily we can lose connection to the earth. Spending long periods indoors, driving cars, wearing shoes and spending 12 hours a day staring at a dead screen creates a disconnection between ourselves and the earth. The longer we’re disconnected from the earth and the outside world, the more we forget our interconnected role within nature and the more we tend to focus on ‘I, me, my’= the Ego, a state where its easy to feel isolated and empty inside, and a place where happiness can never be found. If you want to feel alive, you need to surround yourself with living things. Reconnecting to the earth element and feeling more ‘grounded’ can be as simple as walking in nature and really noticing your surroundings. Rather than plugging into a podcast or checking your phone, notice the colours of the trees, notice how the light filters through the leaves, or how your surroundings change from season to season. Goethe said that in nature we never see anything isolated, but everything in connection with something else which is before it, beside it, under it and over it. He said “if Nature is your teacher, your soul will awaken”.
