Ali Pournoroozy - Fine Artist
Most often my art derives from my passion for nature and birds, an interest that I have had since early childhood just like painting.
I am driven by a curiosity to test different techniques. I move between different visual worlds, shifting from purely figurative to abstract. Mostly I find myself in figurative painting with fantastical elements.
My process switches between intuitive painting and working with models or depicting reality. Sometimes it becomes a mix of these.
I work mainly in watercolour and acrylics and recently I have been exploring coffee as paint. In my watercolour painting contrasts and light have great significance, as does colour, for loading the image. It is light against dark, wet to dry, wet to wet. Different watercolour techniques used in the same image, creating a mood or painting scenes where the interpretations can be multiple and ambiguous.
To me, all painting, both as practitioner and observer, is about the will to touch and the will to be touched.
I was born in Iran and I live and work in Sweden.
After studying at the art institute in Tehran in the 70s I have continued to work as an artist, illustrator and teacher for the last four decades.
