THE MOUNTAIN AND THE WHIRLWIND
Mountains and weather have always fascinated me. Mountains ground me. They offer perspective. They are a playground, yet command respect. A world within the world.
And the weather simply is what it is. You can read as many forecasts as you like, but in the end, the weather will always become whatever it becomes.
I love snowstorms, pouring rain and whirlwinds. And I love being out in the middle of them. Somehow, it makes me feel extra alive, as long as I have the privilege of being able to seek shelter when I need to.
But when the forces of weather are intensified and altered by climate change, I feel something very different. Sadness, more than anything.
Here too, I hope my painting can make its own small contribution. By reminding us of the primal force of nature, and how precious a thriving planet really is.

Welcome to a world of nature, inner landscapes and glimmers.
Nina Johansson, Sweden, call herself a freeride painter; painting the way she skiis, with curiosity, presence and and reading and feeling the terrain rather than follow a fixed route. She is based ioutside Stockholm in the archipelago.
Her layered painting process move between abstraction and recognition, drawing on mountains, forests, water and organic forms as both outer and inner landscapes. Sometimes Mademoiselle Montagne shows up.
Her work embraces both/and rather than either/or: freedom and belonging, stillness and movement, strength and vulnerability, the wild and the grounded. She explores what we carry, what we let go of and what we pass on, with a deep love of nature and a wish to protect its wonder for generations to come.
And then there are the glimmers: those fleeting flashes of awe that sharpen our sense of being alive. Ultimately, her work is about the art of living.

In the gallery Nina’s paintings are mostly placed in interiiors she creates with digital tools. The paintings in the different interiors are always her own handmade original paintings

Grandmother Dagmar, who loved the mountains and forests and shared her sense of wonder with us grandchildren, over hidden patches of chanterelles, blooming globeflowers, the winter sun warming our faces and orange breaks in snowy landscapes
Grandmother Alva, a creative by heart, seamstress - who told magic stories, baked gingerbread cookies with a splash of whiskey and sewed exquisite, fashion-forward doll clothes for me and my cousin
Education - shorter courses (half a year) and workshops within street photography and intuitive art
