Joao (Marcelo) Medina

Born in Brazil, with German and Spanish roots, and deeply marked by years in Sweden and a time in France, my life — and my art — are the natural product of all these worlds combined.

My work takes shape between Kalmar, Sweden, and Tarragona, Spain, always drawing inspiration from people. Intuition guides my process, supported by technical training at the Florence Academy of Art and the Barcelona Academy of Art.

My painting is also shaped by the work of modernist Anita Malfatti (Brazil), and post-modernists Iberê Camargo (Brazil), Georg Baselitz (Germany) and Vicente Chumilla (Spain).
