A work from my collection 7 Deadly Sins through the metaphor of birds. A flamingo hidden in the shadows represents envy. It is the gaze of resentment and desire of somebody’s fortune, that nobody was supposed to see. Flamingo’s discrete body language and dark background is contrasted with its vibrant feathering to explore how this sin is both active and passive. Its natural pink colouring also aligns with the theological perspective that envy is a “sin of a heart”. My title interplays with the idea of who is being an observer, the flamingo or the viewer.
