Re-birth, 2024
Akryl
84 x 50 x 5 cm
5 200 kr
This piece has, until now, not been for sale, as it is still on my wall! It was painted in 2024 on an amazing vintage canvas and frame made of black oak with streaks of silver. It has an inner frame with linnen cloth.
I had no plan for what to paint, and I just followed my longing for colors and texture. To me it was just that. Two weeks after it was finished a friend Said ”Cant you see it is a birth?” and I started to laugh as it is was sooo obvious! A big belly, breasts, a birth canal, something being born from it, the umbilical cord, blood vessels. I mean, it cannot be more concrete than that painted abstractly?!
It has meant alot to me, reminding me of the rebirth process happening in my own life there recent years. By the way, it is still on my wall ;-)

My art often explores aspects of our inner and outer universe, as well as the borderland between the two. I find that it is a continous process rather than a clear-cut and concrete boundary, as it becomes increasingly indefinable, diffuse and flowing the closer you look. Other times the creation on my canvas is inspired by some aspect of life that is much more concrete like the nature.
What becomes expressed through my art, from a meta perspective, can therefore be charachterized as a meeting between the known and the unknown, the sacred and the profane, the concrete and the abstract, the finite and the infinite.
With a background ranging from science (Ph.D in Bilingualism), teacher education (M.Ed), psychology (on both foundational and PhD-course levels) and spirituality (meditation- and yoga teacher), I found that art was the missing link in my life.
I view and experience art as a path to healing, to presence and as a route to the deeper and unexplainable aspects of life. I also view art as an important visual medium that opens up the opportunity for connection and transformation in a world where separation and disconnection increasingly permeate our lives.
I create using my gut instinct and the paintings are made without a fixed plan (quite the opposite type of creating compared to scientific creating where logic and structure is absolutely vital). I enter the stream of creative flow and I keep creating and recreating until my gutfeeling says YES! It is like a journey to a new country, an exploration with all the senses acutely aware, soaking in the experience of every moment, the people, the places, the environments and the ambiance - so prescious. Each piece becomes a small window to the soul of the universe, concretized through the colors, structures and shapes on my canvas.
I often paint series with different themes and/or tonality, and it is not uncommon that my inner work becomes an outer expression on my canvas.
My sources of inspiration
I draw inspiration from multiple sources—scientific, cosmic, and spiritual.
1. The Marine Realm and Subaquatic Environment which often can be seen in my choice of colors. The turquoise, blue, and green tonalities, combined with sweeping compositional movements, evoke the fluid dynamics of water, waves, or currents. The metallic details reflect light effects and the refraction of light through water—reminiscent of viewing the seabed from the surface or the other way around (I was Dive Master some 30 years ago).
2. Cosmos and astronomy inspire numerous works that display cosmological flow, energetic streams, celestial bodies, foreign galaxies and nebulae.
3. Nature's Organic Patterns has inspired my most recent painting series, To Mother Earth with Love, that incorporates forms that appear derived from organic processes, natural systems as well as a color palette that Mother Earth displays in all her glory.
4. Spirituality, energetics and physics are also a sources of inspiration. The recurring spiral motifs suggest a connection to energy flows, vital force, and life's evolution. Many pieces express life's cyclical development and nature, other pieces the stillness and equilibrium that is the foundation underlying all movement and energy. In the teachings of the Indian tantrik tradition Kashmir Shaivism there is a very interesting phenomena called Spanda, that describes the whole universe as a living organism expressed as a pulse; the in-breath and out-breath of the divine, like a heartbeat of existence. I find this deeply inspiring.
