While visiting a friend in a suburb, just North of London I spotted a number of majestic birds flying above. Intrigued, I researched and discovered that they were Red Kites, which have been successfully reintroduced to the UK after being wiped out. How cool is that?

Chris Stayne
Stockholm
Born in the south of England, Chris spent his formative years near the woodlands and downs of Surrey, where his deep appreciation for nature first took root. This early connection with the natural world became a central theme in his life and art, alongside a profound love for texture, surface, and mark-making. Through his nuanced handling of materials, Chris creates a richness that forges a powerful connection between the artwork and the audience.
Chris pursued a BA Hons in Creative Arts at Newcastle Polytechnic (now the University of Northumberland), followed by a Postgraduate Diploma in Art Therapy at the University of Hertfordshire. It was here that he met his future wife, and shortly thereafter, he followed her to Stockholm, Sweden.
In Stockholm, Chris initially worked as a special needs teacher in an international school, leveraging his qualifications as a therapist. Discovering a passion for teaching, he returned to university to earn a Master of Education degree in Art Education. For over 20 years, Chris has thrived as an art teacher in Stockholm’s international schools, finding immense joy in fostering creativity and sharing his skills and ideas with his students.
In 2005, Chris held a successful solo exhibition at Gallery Spighotti in Stockholm. Although he created art sporadically, often in connection with student projects, his work increasingly reflected his love for nature and concern for the environment. A long-time supporter of WWF, Chris decided to dedicate more of his time to art, focusing on the natural world that he cherished and saw under threat.
When the climate allows, Chris shuns the city for the countryside, often painting from his van parked in the national parks of Sweden. His art, deeply inspired by nature, aims to capture its beauty and raise awareness about environmental issues.
