BIOGRAPHY.
Walfrido Valera was born in Cuba, in the mythical "Treasure Island", today called "Isla de la Juventud", on May 10, 1973. At the age of 11 he began four years of artistic education.(painting, sculpture, and other visual art disciplines). In 1990 he started studying architecture at the University of Havana and graduated in 1996.
His professional career has been linked to his artistic production, including his murals, paintings and sculptures in his projects. In 2012 he decided to open his workshop gallery in Old Havana.
In his artistic career in Cuba, he has had more than a dozen exhibitions and won some contest prizes.
Since 2016 he has lived in Stockholm, Sweden where he has his gallery and continues making exhibitions.

STATEMENT.
I am an artist who captures moments and feelings. My mission is to evoke emotions, and memories and plant fantasies for those who like to contemplate life, travel to their inner and build dreams.
Books and nature became part of my inspiration. Sometimes I feel like a child; my house is a boat and my island is the whole world.
The process is fundamental in my work, which is to throw up, like emptying myself of accumulated and fermented ideas. I like diversity and development so I keep innovating with different materials and techniques.
Now I am focused on sharing my cultural experience with my community and participating in events, fairs and art exhibitions. But you can always find me there, in my atelier, doing what I like most, enjoying the process.

2005-Winner of the competition for the creation of the poster for the film awarded at the 27th International Festival of New Latin American Cinema (ICAIC). Havana, Cuba.
2006-National Martiana Society Award at the National Martiano Salon. Havana, Cuba.
2006-2015 I worked in my gallery in Old Havana, Cuba. I made several murals on commission in hospitals and companies. My paintings are part of several private collections.
2016-I moved to Sweden and opened my gallery where I have made several exhibitions as well as participated in events such as Nytorifesten (2022-2023-2024). I have also exhibited in group shows in galleries such as Bellman Galleri in Södermalm, Casa de la Cultura in Hallunda, Tellus Bar in Midsommarkransen and at the Royal Park Hotel.
