Mother Universe, 2024
Akryl
38 x 46 x 2 cm
I was inspired by Hilma af Klint's paintings, by her round shapes and flowers. So I got an idea to paint what I like to paint the most but with "her" round shapes. And it is the human body especially the female body. I started sketching with a profile picture of the body, but then I decided that the body of a pregnant woman is even better because then there is an opportunity to show infinity through the round shapes. That's how I got the idea to make a painting called "Mother Universe". The universe looks like a mistic space woman" who has the Earth as her pregnant belly and the Sun and the Moon as her breasts; also, her hair is space winds. The little astronaut represents humankind on the painting. He (humankind) looks at the Universe and tries to understand how nature and the world work. You can see that she is looking at him but saying nothing, just holding her stomach with her caring hand, which is quite hard to spot right away, just like with our own mothers. They care about us all the time even if we don't always realize it. With this painting, I would like to draw the public's attention to environmental issues as well as attitudes towards women in society when it comes to pregnancy and childbirth. Because there is still a lot that women get to know when they get pregnant and get children, for example, postpartum depression.
