The woman with closed eyes is in a stage of spiritual awakening. A spiritual awakening is a profound, inner process where you question old beliefs and discover the connection between everything. You feel inner peace.
This painting is influenced by Sumerian sculptures and their symbols. The Sumerians were one of the oldest civilisations who lived in the southern part of Mesopotamia, (present-day southern Iraq) around 4,500 to 1,900 BC. Among other things, the Sumerians developed cosmology, the concept of time, wheeled vehicles and the first known city.
The symbols
The 'handbag' on the left is a symbol that existed among the oldest known civilisations. The 'handbag' may have been a cosmological symbol that meant much more than what we see and understand (in the present day).
The sundial on the left represents the Sumerians skill in measuring time, based on the position of the sun's shadow.
The pine symbol has been found in many ancient cultures around the world. It is thought to have symbolised the pineal gland and the "third eye".
The "bracelet", on the right side of the woman, was probably a decorative symbol and a popular piece of jewelry.
The Om sign/sound, above the "bracelet", is an ancient, holy symbol that stands for the ultimate truth of the universe and the highest vibration of divinity.
The peace symbol is from the present and stands for inner and outer peace.
The bird represents freedom and humanity's free will.
