I spent almost all of last fall on this one. It was through trial and error and quite a few happy accidents that I managed to get all the elements in the composition at last. There is a lot going on in the picture and this piece was a big learning experience.
The reference photo of the boys in the foreground was taken on the little guy’s first day of preschool. Hand in hand the brothers embarked on an adventure and over time at least a fragment of a song came to life while I was painting:
Hold my hand
I know, little bro
Where to go
Let me show
You the way
We’re little big kings
With little big hearts
Sometimes we’ll fight
But we will be alright
And I promise you
We’ll never grow apart
