Original Collage Artwork - Brutus
This brutal and yet fantastic character.
The original popeye cartoon was created by Elzie Crisler Segar in the 1920. My take is inspired by a 3D character design done by Hossein Diba.
Materials are from various cartoons including old popeye cartoons. Did a wash/painting on his shirt with acrylics to calm it down a bit. Tooth is 3D printed in 14 karat gold. Background text printed on canvas. Mounted in a rough floating frame.
About My Artwork
It is Collage art, where I have used cartoons and magazines.
My artwork is meant to be viewed at different distances creating a experience depending on your distance from it... the chaotic feel and the small secrets up close - go further away and the artwork starts to come together.
Worked with a lot symbolisms in the collage and I’m trying to give materials an additional life by recycling to create something beautiful.

Brio has worked for 25 years as a graphic designer and for many years with collage art. The inspiration comes, among other things from comics, which are an important element in his art.
With his creative mind, he tries to give materials an extra life by recycling canvas, magazines, clothes etc.
