Uppsala

Hi! My name is Julius Rosenberg and I am a Swedish painter. Throughout my career, I have been influenced by many styles and painters from different parts of the world, having a particular obsession with the lost techniques of the old masters. For decades, I have been studying and trying to make a technical imitation of the styles of Rembrandt, Rubens, Vermeer, Bato Dugarzhapov, Odd Nerdrum.

I was born in Cuba in 1965 and have been an active artist since early childhood. In the beginning, my activities were related to school works. I attended drawing classes in my hometown in central Cuba, where I was introduced to the works of Cuban masters like Wilfredo Lam and René Portocarrero and the artist from The Renaissance. It was then that I understood that drawing and painting are significant parts of my life.

It was not until I was relocated to Russia (Soviet Union) that I started to work with oil paints. During six years took private painting classes with the Russian master Alexander Bukharov, considered the first surrealist painter in the Soviet Union. In other European countries, he is acknowledged as the father of a new artistic direction known as intellectual surrealism. During this time, I was enormously influenced by the Peredvizhniki movement in Russia, being fascinated by the works of Repin, Shishkin, Kramskoi, Levitan, Korovin, etcetera.

Then I moved to Sweden, where I have lived most of my life. Here, my painting career started in 1991 in Medelpad with private expositions in Sundsvall and Timrå and collaboration with art galleries and private art collectors. Later on, I reinstalled myself in Norrbotten, having several private expositions in different parts of the county. At that time, I worked for the most part in the style of "alla prima" painting like the Peredvizhniki and both French and Russian impressionists. During this decade, I acted as a painting teacher in several locations in The Norrbotten County.

In 1997, I moved to Tyresö and, to improve my skills, I attended more painting courses at « Paletten » and « Väsby » art schools. At the Väsby Art School, I met The Cuban-American Master Guillermo Lorente Pérez, which has been an enormous source of inspiration and guidance for 25 years. Alexander Bukharov, however, continues orienting my efforts with valuable advices and recommendations.

In 2001, I was badly affected by a neurological disease, and my painting career suffered a considerable drawback. It took some time to reorient and adapt my painting style to a poor health condition and associated limitations. The impediments forced me to return to the structured and more controlled painting methods of the old masters from the barock period. Unfortunately, "alla prima" painting on the spot, which I love enormously, is no longer suitable for my health situation.

Utbildning
Six years of continuous lessons with Alexander Bukharov from 1985-1991, one semester at the Paletten Art School in Stockholm in 1997-1998, and a painting course at Västby Art School with Guillermo Lorente Pérez as a teacher in 1998.

Utställningar
My artworks can be found in private collections in different countries. I have had expositions in several parts of Sweden and some of my paintings were acquired by the Norrbotten Läns Landsting. In that period, my artworks were signed with my former name Julio González. In 1998, I participated in a substantial exposition at Väsby Konsthall with my teacher Guillermo Lorente Pérez and other renowned established Swedish painters.
