London Cardboard city

Dessa tavlor målades i 2010 för utställningen "Cardboard city" . År 2025 rgick jag över de fyra målningarna som jag hade kvar från utställningen och lade till texten. De är nu till salu inramade i en 1 cm svävande ram.

"Everything is fabricated: objects, people, words, meaning. In the city buildings are facades and people are masks. Urban landscapes are constructed. Ruins, piles of waste, materials, outdated designs all reveal their own skeletons and limits. The scenes of construction sites and of bins outside a building being renovated are like X-ray images of what was there and what might be there in the future. The exhibition Cardboard City portrays London through a series of paintings, drawings and photographs. Cardboard City was the name for an area of cardboard boxes near Waterloo Station lived in by homeless people from 1983 to 1998. It was also the name of a more elaborate informal settlement in the capital of Serbia where most homes were built from cardboard or other non-building material like plywood or nylon bags. The title Cardboard City was chosen to describe London as a temporary, ever-changing, constructed landscape. A landscape which displays an array of juxtapositions. Prosperous homes co-exist with destitute housing. Likewise, modern buildings are erected adjacent to older classical architecture. Advanced designs mix with low-tech structures. And nature mingles with cement and metal. London is a patchwork of progressive innovations and make-do arrangements."
