Weeping Willow

Weeping Willow is a semiabstract tryptich of different size round artworks created from weeping willow's fallen leaves. The leaves are forming a circle through the beautiful pattern dictated by their natural shape and colour.

Each artwork resembles a copper shield. What can it protect you from? This is the question.

The ancient Chinese believed that willow branches would ward off evil spirits and they were often carried or placed over doorways to keep those spirits away.


If it is protection from the bad eye, in many cultures the symbol of the eye was used for these purposes, and you can see two eyes depicted in the artworks with oil pains.

Another question rised is: are you watching the artwork or he artwork is watching you?

The artist believes that every object and every creature, everything has the same importance, that is why she is rising the question of the energy, the life in the artwork. To emphasise her opinion Elen Alien uses natural materials, containing life energy in their own.
