Eduardo Bava

I am a self-taught artist whose creative process is driven by pure intuition and spontaneity. My creative process is direct and uncompromising: I rarely sketch in advance, but let my feelings and instincts take shape directly on the canvas. My work is a constant search for contrasts between light and shadow, form and void, Nordic melancholy and the Southern European temperament.

My painting is the result of an artistic and personal journey shaped by three different cultures: my Italian roots, the more than 30 years I have spent living and working in Sweden, and my current life in Barcelona, where for the past nine years I have lived in the creative district of Gràcia and painted in the vibrant light of the Mediterranean. This cultural fusion characterises the unmistakable identity of each of my artworks.

Through my oil paintings on canvas which range from lyrical landscapes and expressive seascapes to the intimacy of the human figure and nude models I explore the dialogue between the introspective melancholy of the North and the colourful warmth of the South. My long experience in Scandinavia has given me a deep sensitivity to the silence of nature and the search for harmony in inhabited spaces. On the other hand, my Italian heritage imbues my works with drama, a masterful command of chiaroscuro and a deep respect for the artisanal precision of classical oil painting techniques.

I work exclusively with high-quality professional pigments and carefully selected surfaces, building up my paintings layer by layer to capture a vibrant light and a rich, tactile, material texture. My paintings are characterised by a bold and distinctive brushstroke that serves as my visual signature. They are created to transform spaces and forge a deep and aesthetic connection with the viewer.
